well, after much ado about nothing I’m getting started with a blog. I’ve visited others and am not sure how this will go, but given the alternatives (snailmail and e-mail) here goes nothing! I’m about to drop out of the world as I’ve know it to be for the last 28 yrs. Its time to crap or get off the pot. I’m setting off in two wks time, actually about 10 days from now, on an across the country bicycle trip. I’ve completed all the planning and continue with the worrying. I attempted to register with an organized ride thru adventure cycling, but they didn’t get enough people to sign-up so they cancelled. probably has to do with the cost , about $4250. so I went back to the drawing board and on the AC website the companions wanted section, I contacted as many people of like mind that seemed interested in a cross country tour. I have two other gentlemen convinced that the three of us would get along well enough to complete the journey (about 4500 mi) and become the best of friends to boot! Michael and Jerry seem like nice enough guys. although we’ve never met , how different from me could they be? they are committed to pedaling a bike from anacortes wash to bar harbor maine in a couple of months. almost an entire summer, june, july and most of august.  we will be traveling the northern tier route as mapped and ridden by adventure cycling groups. Other riders will be out there as well. we are not the only boat in the ocean, so to speak. many, many questions remain. have I trained enough? what about the load of gear I’ll have to carry? will we get along? the weather is the biggest variable that will infulence our trip.cold and snowy in the mtns? winds in the plains? thunder and lightning,TORNADOES!! some doofii who thinks that all wierdoes wearing bike shorts are the scum of the earth and deserve the front fender up their arses!!
